The Journey

One island. Two sports. Eight perfect nights.

Day by Day

The shape of the journey.

Eight nights, three coasts, three rounds and a wave that meets you exactly where you are — surf in the morning, golf in the afternoon, the sea in between. Yours will be redrawn around your dates and your party.

Wanning → Sanya → Haikou8 Nights · 9 Days
Day 1 Arrive Hainan

Landing on the surf coast.

Arrive at Sanya or Haikou and transfer along the coast to Wanning, where your suite at the surf resort looks straight down the PerfectSwell® lineup. A board fitting matched to your level, then a welcome dinner of Wanning's famous seafood.

Day 2 Surf, At Your Level

Two sessions on a wave built for you.

Two sessions on a wave generated to order. The first runs soft and forgiving — first-timers are standing within the hour, with a coach at their shoulder; the second steps up exactly as far as you want it to, from clean open faces to fast, steep walls. Every ride on video, reviewed over dinner.

Day 3 Round One

Links golf on the South China Sea.

Play The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula, China's #2 — a true coastal links shaped through natural dunes, ocean wind and wide-open views of the sea, twenty minutes up the coast. Caddies, a clubhouse lunch above the water, and a golden-hour surf session back at the pool.

Golf · The DunesOptional sunset surf

Day 4 Wanning → Sanya

Last waves, then south along the coast.

A final session in the pool — the one where it all clicks — then the coastal highway south, the sea on your left the whole way. Check in on Haitang Bay at the likes of Rosewood, in a city that now holds its own Michelin Guide.

Day 5 Round Two

Sea on one side, mountain on the other.

Play Lu Hui Tou, draped across the peninsula above Sanya Bay — a Nelson & Haworth headland routing where every approach plays from a different angle, the South China Sea below one shoulder and the green mountain ridge above the other. The spa and the bay close the day.

Day 6 The Sea Day

Under way on your own yacht.

A rest for the shoulders and the swing: a private three-hour charter out of Yalong Bay — cruise, swim, paddle. The day ends at the Sanya night market: tropical fruit, fresh seafood, Hainanese street food, and a table we will have chosen for you.

Optional Add-On Island culture

A Li & Miao culture day.

Areca Manor, the island's Li & Miao cultural park — traditional weaving, stilt houses and performances in the palm forest — or the giant Guanyin at Nanshan, with a private guide.

Day 7 Sanya → Haikou

North to the lava fields.

Drive north across the island to Mission Hills, where your suite sits inside the estate a few minutes from Blackstone's first tee. Then the volcanic mineral springs — a hundred-odd pools fed by the lava field your final round is carved through.

Day 8 Round Three

The finale: China's #1.

Play Mission Hills Blackstone, the island's crescendo — a World Top 100 championship course carved through black volcanic lava rock and jungle, the stage where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy went head-to-head. A long clubhouse evening closes the scorecard on the trip.

Day 9 Depart

Old Haikou, then homeward.

Walk the arcades of Qilou Old Street with your guide — a Hainanese coffee under the shutters of the old trading houses — then take a private transfer to Meilan International. Or continue on: Yunnan's snow-mountain fairways are a short flight away.

More on Hainan

Asia's most exclusive golf in depth — the links, the lava, selective Shanqin Bay and where to stay.

This is a starting point, not a script.

More surf, less golf — or the reverse. Bring non-golfers, add a second loop at the Dunes, stretch Sanya to a week — every journey is rebuilt from scratch around your party before anything is booked.

The Golf

Three rounds, three coasts.

China's #1 and #2 ranked courses — a coastal links and a lava-field World Top 100 — with Sanya's headland round between them. The strongest hand of golf on any island in Asia.

The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula

Few courses in China have a setting like this. Built along the coast and shaped by natural sand dunes, ocean wind, dramatic bunkering and wide-open views of the South China Sea, Tom Weiskopf's design delivers a true links experience with a tropical edge — raw, cinematic, and twenty minutes from your surf resort. Ranked China's #2 by Golf Digest and among Asia's ten best.

Lu Hui Tou Peninsula · Sanya

Lu Hui Tou Golf Club

Sanya's headland course — eighteen holes draped across the Lu Hui Tou peninsula between the South China Sea and the green mountain ridge. Nelson & Haworth's routing uses the elevation to give every approach a different angle and every tee a different view of Sanya Bay. Paired with an evening on Haitang Bay, the island's most polished golf day arranges itself.

Mission Hills Blackstone

One of the world's rare black-lava championship courses, and the island's crescendo: a dramatic layout carved through volcanic rock, jungle and sandy waste, recognized by Golf Digest among the World's Top 100. This is the stage where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy went head-to-head in 2013 — a bucket-list round with real history, saved deliberately for last.

Stand up on your first wave

On Hainan's surf coast, with our partner SurfChinaCo, we put complete beginners onto a real wave from the very first session. At a PerfectSwell wave pool the swell is generated to order — the same shape, the same gentle peel, every time — so there's no paddling out and no waiting: just a coach at your shoulder and a wave built for your level. First-timers especially welcome.
